GEAR UP Achievers

Gearing up for success in middle school, high school, college and beyond

GEAR UP provides middle and high school students from low-income families the support they need to access and succeed in college.

GEAR UP, which stands for Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs, is a federal grant, funded by the U.S. Department of Education. The University of Washington’s Office of Minority Affairs & Diversity received a 7-year GEAR UP partnership grant to work with schools in South King County. The UW currently holds two GEAR UP grants to support students from middle school through the first year of college.
