In October, the GEAR UP RISE UP College Navigator team visited Skagit Valley College to connect with students from the Class of 2024. It was open to all students who are in the RISE UP cohort, regardless of post-secondary progress. This event allowed students to meet with the College Navigators, meet peers from the RISE UP cohort, and learn more about how GEAR UP can continue to support students in their first year of post-secondary education. Students received drinks, pastries, and a goodie bag in the spirit of Halloween as they enjoyed hands-on activities that included art therapy, game station, writing a letter to your future self and photo station. They were also given resources such as more information on student loans, access to a scholarship list, a Word/Excel shortcut sheet, and College Navigator’s contact information. Students who attended gained a support system and knowledge that can help them navigate their first year of college and beyond.
