Putting Away Oral Packaging

1. Check Packaging

A pharmacist should first check the packaged products in either the packaging software (iPack Rx or Pak-EDGE UD) or on the packaging card.

The remaining steps can be performed by either a pharmacist or a technician.

2. Finalize Produced Quantity

Log into Elite and set your session parameters accordingly.

  • Printer: BASE
  • Pick Area: ALL

From the Home menu go to Packaging Production Completion Entry.

Find the packaged product you would like to put away by looking under the “Item Description” column in the table.

Once you find the product, go over to the “Produced Quantity” column. Verify that the quantity listed is the final amount of product being put away. If the quantity is off due to wastage or overfill in the packaging process, double-click the value listed and change it to the correct quantity.

CAUTION: Make sure you are changing the “Produced Quantity” and not one of the other values listed.

Next, click next to the product being put away and select Release to Post. Upon clicking Release to Post, a label will print on the BASE printer. You may get multiple labels for one packaged product. This occurs when Elite wants you to put away the packaged product in batches. You will be using this label in the following steps.

3. Put Away

The final step is to put away the packaged product. In order to do so, we will have to go through the put away process twice. First, go back to the Home menu by clicking the TecSys logo. Click Putaway.

Scan the barcode found on the printed label into the Tag or Container field, then click Continue.

Scan the barcode found on the packaged product in the Confirm Item/ Container field. Then copy the drop point into the Confirm Drop-Off Location field. The drop point will either be DP-MAIN, DP-RECAR1, or DP-RECAR2 as listed in Next Location. (See below)

Press Enter on your keyboard or click Continue. This will bring you back to the Putaway screen. We must repeat the above process twice. To do so a second time, scan the same printed label into the Tag or Container field, then click Continue.

Scan the barcode found on the packaged product in the Confirm Item/ Container field. Now look at the location listed in Next Location.

If the next location listed is drop point (DP-CAR1 or DP-CAR2), copy and paste that drop point into the Confirm Drop-Off Location field. Note the quantity of packaged product Elite is asking you to move, then click Continue. Bring the specified quantity of packaged product over to the carousel area. There will be a task in the carousel Task Queue to put away the packaged product into the Forward Pick location. Placing the packaged product into a Forward Pick completes the put away process for that batch of packaged product.

If the next location listed is a location name, determine whether it is a Forward Pick or FIFO location as denoted by either an FP or a FIFO next to the location name. If it is a FIFO, walk over to that location to see if there is enough room to store the quantity of packaged product Elite is asking you to store. If enough room is available, place that quantity of packaged product in that location and scan that location barcode into the Confirm Drop-Off Location field. If it is a FP, place the quantity of packaged product Elite tells you to place into that location and scan that location barcode into the Confirm Drop-Off Location field. Placing the packaged product into either a FIFO or a Forward Pick completes the put away process for that batch of packaged product.

You will have to go through the put away process twice (as described above) for each printed packaging label. Once you’ve put away the quantity of packaged product associated with each printed label, you have successfully completed putting away the non-sterile packaged products.
