Valuing Diversity

The Department of Rehabilitation Medicine and the University of Washington Graduate School support diversity and leadership in graduate education. Students wishing to become involved may want to find out more about the the following opportunities and resources:

Graduate Opportunities Minority Achievement Program (GO-MAP), located in the Graduate School. GO-MAP offers scholarship, educational, and social programs each year to facilitate the connection of students, faculty, and alumni. While many of GO-MAP’s events and programming are geared toward underrepresented minority graduate students, they are open to all University of Washington graduate students, faculty and staff, especially those interested in maintaining and increasing a racially diverse graduate student population and wishing to network with graduate students of color. The UW Q Center offers community for students of all sexual and gender identities, orientations, and expressions.

The UW Disabilities Resources for Students (DRS) office provides support and guidance for students with disabilities. Students seeking accommodations will need to register and work through the DRS office.

First Generation graduate students are individuals who are first in their family to earn a Bachelor’s degree and are now working on a graduate degree. Resources for First Generation students can be found here.

Students wishing accommodations for religious observances should follow the UW Religious Accommodations Policy.

The Department of Rehabilitation sponsors the Rehabilitation Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Council (REDI). Interested students can contact Vickie Corrin or Sujata Pradhan for more information.

Title IX Notice

Title IX, Title VII, VAWA, Washington State law, and University of Washington policy collectively prohibit discrimination based on sex, sexual orientation, gender, gender expression, pregnant or parenting status, and LGBTQ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer) identity.

Anyone may contact the Office of the Title IX Coordinator about sex and gender discrimination, including sexual or gender-based harassment, sexual assault, intimate partner violence, stalking, and other forms of sexual misconduct. Anyone who has experienced these behaviors has the right to make a complaint to the University, report to the police, to both, or not at all.

Please see the Title IX website to learn more about how to report or make a formal complaint. of sex discrimination, sexual harassment, or other sexual misconduct. You will also find information about supportive measures. and the grievance procedures. that are utilized for complaints of sexual harassment and other sexual misconduct. Students and employees have access to support measures and resources, whether or not they choose to make a complaint.
