About me:
My name is Matthias Heinz. I am a doctoral fellow in nuclear theory at the Technische Universität Darmstadt with Prof. Achim Schwenk. Before coming to Darmstadt, I obtained by Bachelor’s degree in Physics and Computer and Information Science from the Ohio State University. This fall, I will start a position as Wigner Fellow at Oak Ridge National Laboratory. My research interests are in ab initio calculations of atomic nuclei, with an emphasis on developing improved high-precision methods to compute medium-mass and heavy nuclei, quantifying uncertainties in our calculations (especially many-body uncertainties), and applying these developments to key questions in nuclear structure also relevant for searches for new physics. I am particularly interested in understanding the structure of calcium isotopes better, where there are numerous puzzling discrepancies between theory and experiment.
