PGY2 Psychiatry

Program Description

This is an ASHP candidate status PGY2 residency in psychiatry at UW Medicine.  The primary practice sites for this program are Harborview Medical Center and the University of Washington Northwest Campus, with one required 4-week outpatient mental health experience at the VA Puget Sound.  The program provides twelve months of training designed to develop and refine the skills necessary to make and monitor therapeutic interventions for the safe and efficacious use of drug therapy in psychiatric patient populations.

Residents have opportunities to provide direct patient care to a diverse patient population in multiple settings across the health system.  Residents work independently as an integral member of the healthcare team with guidance and mentorship from experienced preceptors. The aim of the program is to provide the specific skills and competencies to the resident that are needed to assume advanced practitioner and leadership roles in psychiatry pharmacy practice. Upon completion of the program, residents are equipped to obtain a position as a psychiatric clinical pharmacist, clinical faculty, or continuation of postgraduate training in a fellowship program.
