SAFS Equity Audit Survey Is Live!

Over the past couple of quarters, SAFS has been working with educational equity consultants to develop and conduct an Equity Audit of the School. This process was formally proposed about a year ago, and it is through the efforts and advocacy of dedicated students and postdocs that the Equity Audit is happening now. The Equity Audit is an important step for creating an inclusive and welcoming environment for everyone, and our current phase of the process is to administer a survey instrument to the entire SAFS community.

The goal of the diversity, equity, and inclusion survey is to uncover areas of opportunity and to identify ways in which SAFS can strengthen existing practices to ensure that all students, postdocs, staff, and faculty feel welcomed and connected. The Equity Audit is one more step in the process of continual growth and improvement. Based on recommendations from the consultants (synthesized from the focus groups and survey) and ongoing community dialogue, SAFS will be able to take meaningful action to advance diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice.

The survey should take about 20 minutes to complete, and consists mostly of multiple choice/Likert questions with a few free response opportunities. It is accessible both on computers and mobile devices. The survey data will be collected and analyzed by WhitworthKee Consulting, and the data will not be shared with any SAFS representative for anonymity and confidentiality purposes. If you have any questions about this, you can contact Chad Kee at ckee@whitworthkee.com.

If you are currently an undergraduate student, graduate student, or postdoc at SAFS, please complete the Student/Postdoc survey. (https://surveyhero.com/c/StudentsPostdocs)

If you are currently a staff or faculty member at SAFS, please complete the Employee survey. (https://surveyhero.com/c/SAFSEmployee)

Please complete the survey by Tuesday, August 24, 11:59pm (PDT).

We want all of your experiences and perspectives taken into account, and it is important that we have a high response rate to ensure accurate data. Please complete the survey as soon as possible and encourage others within SAFS to complete it as well. If you have a lab meeting coming up before the survey deadline, consider setting aside 20 minutes of the agenda for everyone to complete the survey. If you have friends or colleagues who aren’t particularly attentive to email, send them a little nudge via text.

If you have questions about the timeline, process, or purpose of the Equity Audit, feel free to contact the Diversity Specialist (safsdeij@uw.edu).

Thank you for your participation in this process. We are excited to move forward together.
