SAFS DEIJ & Community Service Recognition Award to Jennifer Gosselin
Every quarter, the SAFS Equity and Inclusion Committee chooses an individual or team from within the School to receive the DEIJ and Community Service Recognition Award in honor of their significant contribution towards advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion in community service, academic endeavor, teaching, or research. This quarter, Jennifer Gosselin is the deserving recipient of the Autumn 2021 SAFS DEIJ and Community Service Recognition Award!
Jennifer’s contributions to advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion SAFS are myriad: She was instrumental in the successful establishment of the SAFS E&I Committee and co-chaired the committee during the turbulent first year of the COVID-19 pandemic. She routinely engages in DEI discussions with her peers in SAFS, sharing her thoughts and ideas, supporting new members of the community, and developing her own knowledge in the company of others. She brings attention to DEI topics in her lab, not only keeping an eye out for issues of bias and discrimination but also soliciting ideas and feedback from her team. She has drafted a large part of almost every major DEI document that has come out of the SAFS Equity and Inclusion Committee over the past two years. She has also collaborated with staff and faculty from other departments across UW to expand her knowledge and improve the projects she is already working on.
Anyone who has worked with Jennifer for any length of time knows how willing she is to give of herself—her time, knowledge, resources. She has gone far above and beyond what was required of her as an E&I Committee co-chair, an E&I Committee member, a PI, and a member of the SAFS community. We are delighted to honor Jennifer for her vision, her hard work, and her commitment to making SAFS a better place.
