WARNING
This blog is semi-consensual as it is an assignment from the University of Washington Information School Innovation in Dutch Designs: Libraries, Museums, and Information services program but I, Steffi Ando, am an able and willing participant. The following posts will consist of reflections in a semi-narrative format with less reliance on the prefix, “semi,” than is being provided in this warning statement. Thus, I will be addressing my dearest readers as my “snoopers.” This isn’t a diary but I can’t promise what future historians will think of or categorize this digital platform as. I am thinking ahead and it’s going well so far.
Who is Steffi Ando?
Steffi Ando (she/her/hers)
Starting us off strong with a loaded question, the legal answer is that Steffi Ando is an MLIS student at the University of Washington looking to help others feel safe and deserving of the life people dreamed for themselves at 5 years old. Hobbies include:
That was a grad school joke. Sorry. Hobbies include: yoga, reading, basking in the sun in a nice garden similar to how the elderly just like to sit outside, and crosswords at my favorite wine bar in San Francisco, CA.
Why is Steffi Ando Studying in the Netherlands?
The program, Innovation in Dutch Designs: Libraries, Museums, and Information Services, introduced a concept I had not heard of before: innovation in libraries. Living in San Francisco, “innovation” is rarely associated with libraries or the information science field in general. I am interested in learning how Dutch design approaches the changing information needs of domestic and global populations and hopefully apply these lessons to my current and future places of employment. I foresee myself finding a new answer to this question each day, so please stay tuned. Or, if you tune out, please keep it to yourself.
Thank you for visiting. You’re welcome any time.
Each entry will conclude with my most recent Dutch cat spotting evidence and the Ando Dutch Cat Watch Count (ADCWC potentially patent pending).
I met this cat near the Hilton Amsterdam, who made a big deal about Yoko Ono and John Lennon staying there once, around 00:00. ADCWC: 7
