About SEDS @ UW

Students for the Exploration and Development of Space (SEDS) is a national student organization that advocates for space exploration and development. Our SEDS chapter at the University of Washington, Seattle, pursues these goals by engaging members with engineering challenges and competitions, space policy, and networking within the industry. We want to empower students to learn about space and engineer the solutions to reach it, too. Our work includes competitive space exploration-based team projects, rocket design and building, and research into solutions for spacefaring challenges.

Recently our members have worked with UW’s Space Policy and Research Center (SPARC), and our chapter is participating in a SEDS National rocketry competition. We also seek to inspire younger generations to pursue careers in space, science, and engineering, and we are planning outreach to K-12 schools to achieve this. SEDS is open to all majors, because everyone can love space and contribute to space exploration. 

Being a Member of SEDS @ UW Seattle

Our SEDS chapter is open to all students at UW Seattle. We invite members to fill out a New Member Intake form (see “Contact Us”), and any student can participate in their desired area of interest. We have several ongoing projects, and members can participate in as many as the wish. It is up to members where they will dedicate time, and how much time they contribute. Our chapter wants to be open to everyone who is passionate about space, following our national organization’s motto “Space for Everyone.”

Do you want to help students engineer great projects and reach new professional milestones in the space industry? Please consider donating to our chapter to assist in our engineering, project, and team goals. Our chapter’s primary costs come from manufacturing and equipment sourcing for our rockets, scholarship funding for students seeking Level 1 certification, conference costs, and eventually travel costs (including travel to rocket launch sites).
