Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) Graduate Program Fee Waiver

Hi folks,
We have just been notified Carnegie Mellon University is offering fee waivers to SEFS undergraduate students to apply to any of the graduate programs in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering because they are so happy with the recent performance of a UW ESRM student in their graduate program.  So I encourage both ESRM and BSE students to check out both the fee waiver and the link to their web site where their programs are detailed.  I’ve exerpted the original email the SEFS director received from the head of CMU’s CEE department:

If you’re interested in distributing information to your students, they can access the fee waiver here and learn a little more about our graduate program below:

Carnegie Mellon University’s Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering

offers a nontraditional civil and environmental graduate program that focuses on using leading technologies and data to make our future more resilient.”

UCSB Global Studies Graduate Programs – Applying for 2025 class

UCSB Global Studies Graduate Programs – Applying for 2025 class

The Global Studies Department at UCSB is now in the application season for the Fall 2025 Cohort, and we wanted to publicize our programs as well as opportunities to learn more about them.

MA in Global Studies

This is a 2-year Master’s thesis program in Global Studies. What sets our MA apart from many other Master’s programs is that it is extremely well funded. Most of our MA students receive fellowships and Teaching Assistant positions that cover tuition and help with cost of living expenses for 5 of the 6 academic quarters. The program has an international research/internship requirement, and students receive funding for independent summer research/internship abroad for 3-6 months after their first year.

PhD in Global Studies

The PhD in Global Studies is an extremely competitive program that takes 5-6 years to complete. We typically admit 2-4 PhD students per year, and offer a 5 year funding package composed of fellowships and Teaching Assistant positions. PhD students typically spend 2-3 years completing coursework, 1 year conducting independent research abroad, and 2 years analyzing data and writing their dissertation. Several of our PhD students have gone on to earn postdoc positions after graduation.

Our programs are highly interdisciplinary, problem-focused, and are organized into 3 main areas of specialization:

a) Global Political Economy, Development, and Environment

b) Global Culture, Ideology, and Religion

c) Global Governance, Human Rights, and Civil Society

We are attaching program and information session flyers to this email. To learn more about the Global Studies Department, visit our website at https://global.ucsb.edu, or click here. You can learn about application requirements under the Admissions section of the MA and PhD pages. Keep in mind that the application deadline is December 15, 2024. Please reach out to our Graduate Faculty Director, Professor Javiera Barandiaran (javiera@ucsb.edu) with any questions about our programs.
