Summer B Term Course: Environmental Values Seminar

URBAN 498 B/598 B: Environmental Values Reading Seminar

Summer B Term (July 24-August 21), 3 credits; Monday and Thursday 12pm to 1:20pm, in person

Can be petitioned to count towards ESRM: General Elective requirements.
This discussion-based course will survey different perspectives on how people understand, value, and relate to nature. This course may be of interest to students studying or practicing on the interface between people and nature, including but not limited to designers, planners, architects, policymakers, resource managers, and natural scientists.
Despite the course code, it will not be limited to urban-specific issues.

Student Conference on Conservation Science Application [4/15]

Present your research!

 

If you wish to present a talk, speed talk, or poster but haven’t yet submitted an application, there’s still time— visit the SCCS-NY Application and Registration page and submit your application by Tuesday, April 15 at 5:00 PM EDT.

 

Who should apply?

 

Graduate students, post-doctoral fellows, and early-career professionals pursuing or considering the field of conservation (from anywhere in the world!) are encouraged to present their work. Undergraduate students conducting thesis-level research may also apply. Applications will be considered from any conservation-related field, including work in the natural sciences, social sciences, or the humanities. Selection will be based on application quality and relevance to conservation.

 

About SCCS-NY 2025

 

As a part of the only international series of conservation conferences featuring students and early-career professionals, SCCS-NY provides opportunities for emerging scientists to professionally network, gain experience, and present and get feedback on their work. This year’s hybrid conference will have both virtual and on-site programming. We will host three days of events and activities at the American Museum of Natural History in NYC, and virtual attendance will be supported by live-watch parties of presentations, interactive Q&A sessions, and virtual workshops and mentoring sessions. At SCCS-NY, you’ll be able to:

 

·     Present your work in talk, speed talk, or poster presentation format

·     Receive personalized feedback from mentors 

·     Network with conservation professionals and peers 

·     Build your skills at workshops

Lecturer Full-Time – Temporary position in the Center for Quantitative Sciences program

Applications are invited for a Lecturer Full-Time – Temporary position in the Center for Quantitative Sciences program at the University of Washington, housed within the College of the Environment. The Center for Quantitative Science (CQS) houses the Quantitative Science (Q SCI) course series and undergraduate minor, as well as the Quantitative Ecology and Resource Management Interdisciplinary Graduate Program (QERM). CQS provides foundational knowledge in mathematics, statistics, computational analysis, and experimental design within an environmental and ecological sciences context, preparing students to tackle pressing environmental challenges that humanity faces. This appointment is for a full-time temporary position (100% FTE), with a 9-month service period. There is an opportunity to renew this appointment for a second year, pending funding availability and performance.
