IPM (integrated pest management) provides an alternative strategy to pest management that does not rely on herbicide or insecticide but rather uses knowledge about ecology and predator-prey relations to provide a natural solution to pest problems. The SER-UW Plant Nursery has had IPM beds in the past but all of them have deteriorated/emptied or been overrun by weeds. These beds provide beneficial insects with a place to thrive and help us by predating upon pest insects. This quarter, Pearl did a beautiful job rebuilding our primary IPM bed behind the hoophouse.
