Lab Director
Dr. Shannon M. Sheppard is an Assistant Professor of Speech and Hearing Sciences at the University of Washington. Dr. Sheppard is the Director of the NeuroLinguistics And Brain Lab (NeuroLAB).
She received her PhD in Language & Communicative Disorders from the Joint Doctoral Program at University of California, San Diego and San Diego State University. She completed her postdoctoral fellowship, and clinical fellowship in speech-language pathology, in the Department of Neurology at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine in Dr. Argye Hillis’s Stroke Cognitive Outcomes and REcovery (SCORE) Lab.
Her research focuses on understanding the neural underpinnings of post-stroke aphasia, Primary Progressive Aphasia (PPA), and aprosodia to inform the development of innovative cutting-edge treatments.

Research Assistants
Marie is a graduate student clinician at the University of Washington’s Master of Speech and Hearing Sciences (Medical Speech-Language Pathology Track) and is a research assistant for NeuroLAB. She received a Bachelor of Science in Communication Sciences and Disorders from California State University, Sacramento. Her career goal is to become a medical SLP in inpatient rehabilitation and acute hospital facilities. Her career interests include clinical aphasia research and patient health advocacy. Marie enjoys reading, listening to music, and being near large bodies of water.
