Ensuring Data Quality

Before survey administration, include pre-set skip patterns and logic checks in electronic data collection forms to minimize data entry errors. During survey administration, ongoing communication and review is critical to address any issues that arise and ensure data quality. Debriefing sessions with data collectors should be held regularly, often done each evening during data collection, to troubleshoot issues and provide updates. Data collectors should summarize their impressions of participant engagement and fatigue, unclear questions, and any technical issues with data collection platforms or tablets.

Quality control checks should be performed regularly using software, such as R or Stata, to examine missing data, implausible entries, and issues with data linkages.
