An Enlightening Look at TEAL Spaces

No one lights a lamp in order to hide it behind the door: the purpose of light is to create more light, to open people’s eyes, to reveal the marvels around.

While many details are still up in the air, planning for the upcoming renovation of the Tateuchi East Asia Library (TEAL) is well underway.

One of our priorities during this process is to improve the accessibility of our library resources by making the library as easy to navigate as possible. We also hope to encourage a feeling of openness and space, and in order to achieve this, it’s important that we think about sources of light within the library. Lighting is a crucial component of any design, having an impact on aesthetics as well as accessibility. By considering the available natural light and thinking strategically about lighting fixtures, the design team is working to ensure that the renovation will have a marked, positive impact on our library spaces.
