Tateuchi East Asia Library: News and Projects

TEAL Renovation

To enrich the user experience and enhance the environment for learning, teaching, research and work, the Tateuchi East Asia Library has commissioned a space utilization study to redesign its existing space in Gowen Hall. Inspired by other renovation successes, such as the UW Libraries’ Research Commons in the Allen Library and active learning classrooms in the Odegaard Undergraduate Library, the study will explore ways of providing 21st century library services within the traditional architectural setting of Gowen Hall. Focusing on TEAL’s Beckmann Reading Room, staff offices, and the adjacent collection stacks, the study will incorporate insights from professional assessment, library use studies, and staff input. We anticipate the space study will take 9-12 months from the point of contract. An architect experienced in educational facilities has been selected to undertake the study.

“Enrich the student experience with scalable, sustainable and technology-rich teaching focused on critical information skills. Evolve library spaces to address student enrollment growth and changes in scholarship and learning.”
