The Ferreira Lab is a translational cancer research laboratory in the University of Washington Medical Center’s Department of Neurological Surgery. The lab focuses on identifying more efficacious therapeutic targets of skull-base neural tumors that prove delicate in their location and ability to treat non-surgically. To accomplish this, the lab utilizes genetic and molecular characterization discoveries through a multimodal approach of wet-lab benchwork, bioinformatic analysis, and clinical data collection.

From Bench to Bedside and Back Again

As the Chief of the Neurological Surgery service at UWMC, Dr. Ferreira has the distinct privilege of directly evaluating those affected by neurological cancers, witnessing their clinical presentation, identifying their tumor behavior and morphology at the operating table, and then using these components to guide the research towards less invasive modes of treatment. In a cyclic fashion, the lab’s efforts may then implement improved therapeutic options within the clinic, enhancing patient care.
