Good morning, Huskies!

First and foremost, the smoke. Residents of the Sound are resilient to long stretches of gray skies. But not in September, and not for the current reason. Low level smoke from Oregon and California wildfires has held firm in the Sound for the last couple weeks, resisting some feeble marine pushes. The smoke has brought apocalyptic skies to the entire west coast and continues to give Washingtonians yet another reason to stay indoors. Sadly, it is difficult to predict when the smoke will finally be forced out of Seattle and surrounding areas, but, although nothing in meteorology is certain, the next few days hint at hope.

For today, expect cool temperatures with highs in the mid to upper 60s and overnight lows in the upper 50s. Some showers will arrive in the afternoon and evening, favoring the south and central sound, and the chance of a few thunderstorms amongst these showers is a decent possibility. Smoke will continue to remain widespread today.

Tomorrow, persistent enough south southeasterly winds MIGHT finally clear out some to most of western Washington’s smoke. Along with at least improved air quality, expect showers Saturday morning through midday as temperatures remain cool, capping off near 70 for the weekend.

As we go into early next week, dry conditions are likely to return, but the cooler temperatures and clouds are expected to stick around. A wetter pattern may arrive for late next week. Normally, Seattle may bid a sad farewell to the sunny days of summer, but 2020 is a year of exceptions. I believe many will welcome back the fresh and clear marine air Seattle is best known for!

Have a nice day, Huskies!
