Happy first day of October, Huskies!
It looks like the dry summer doesn’t want to leave us behind just yet. Today will likely be another beautiful day with the sun out and a little bit of cloud coverage. The high is looking to be in the high 60s with some light breezes throughout the afternoon, with an overnight low in the 50s.
Let’s take a look back at September! We had an average high temperature of 70 and an average low of 55. This is pretty normal for a Seattle September. September was pretty dry and we only had 0.62 inches of rain which is behind the normal amount of 1.61 inches. For 2024, we are 5 inches behind average this year. This makes October important because today marks the beginning of the water year 2025. The water year is a period that meteorologists use to measure precipitation that spans from October 1st to September 30th. Looking back at the 2024 water year, we were on track for an average year but had a dry summer.
Looking ahead, the weather will stay slightly warmer than average and dry for the most part, except for a potential system arriving Friday evening. Seattle fall does not seem to want to make an appearance in the next week or two. The outlook issued by the NOAA Climate Prediction Center has warmer than average temperatures and about normal precipitation amounts for the next 6-14 days. Their 3-4 week outlook hints at some potential significant rainfall in that period, but it is far too early to say anything definitive.
Enjoy yet another sunny day, Huskies!
