Sponsor a Design Project

UW BioE design projects allow students to apply engineering design to address unmet needs in health care and biotechnology. Industry and clinical partners are welcome to contribute ideas for projects and/or mentor students.

Team Design:

Device and/or hardware-focused projects carried out by senior undergraduate and Master of Applied Bioengineering students. Projects last 2-3 quarters, and are advised by UW faculty, industry, and/or clinicians.

Individual Research + Design:

Year-long projects conducted in BioE faculty labs by senior undergraduates. These longer projects allow time for sophisticated wet lab-based experiments and strong faculty involvement.

Example Project Topics:

  • Clinical Design Solutions
  • Point-of-Care Diagnostics and Monitoring
  • Rehabilitative Medicine
  • Drug and Vaccine Delivery
  • In Vitro Disease Modeling
  • Tissue Engineering
  • Cancer Detection, Modeling and Treatment
  • Imaging Systems

If you are interested in finding out more about contributing and/or mentoring a Capstone Design Project, please email Christopher Neils (cmneils@uw.edu) and Alyssa Taylor (actaylor@uw.edu) and mention UW BioEngage.
