Welcome to the Cardiovascular Thoracic Intensive Care Unit (CT ICU) at UWMC. On behalf of the healthcare providers, staff, and nurses, we are delighted for your rotation with us.
The CT ICU rotation is an important part of the PGY-2 year of general surgery residency, which traditionally has emphasized residents learning to evaluate and manage complex, critically ill patients in various ICU settings. While providing care to cardiovascular thoracic surgery patients may not become a routine aspect of your intended career plans, the clinical challenges of managing post-operative and critically ill CT ICU patients remain an integral learning experience for all surgical trainees. We hope that you will find your brief rotation on this service to be both clinically rewarding and educationally valuable.
In order to orient and prepare you for this rotation, our CT ICU advanced practice providers have created a Resident Resource section in the UWMC intranet CT ICU website: https://one.uwmedicine.org/sites/UWMC/CTSURG
