Hemostasis: Tie on Passer
Tie on Passer:
When using a tie on a passer, there are several options for how to bring the suture around the tissue. The surgeon can bring around either the suture or the passer, and can bring it around either from the left or the right. The best way to bring the suture around depends on which direction the tip of the clamp on the tissue is facing, and which hand the passer is in.
The most important thing is that the passer and the clamp on the tissue meet “tip to tip” which allows the suture to come around the tissue without getting hung up or slipping.
Common Errors:
There are numerous ways to make a small mistake in using the tie on the passer which can cause issues with clumsiness or slippage of the suture.
