Residents and fellows new to the UW School of Medicine are asked to complete the various orientation requirements outlined below.

Orientation Compensation

GME will compensate residents/fellows for all time spent at GME orientation, EHR training, and eLearning modules that occur prior to appointment start dates. In order to be compensated residents/fellows must upload their completed UW GME Orientation Checklist before their clinical start date.  Click the “Submit Completed Checklist” button to upload your checklist.

Programs are responsible for compensating residents/fellows for any time spent at program required activities that take place prior to appointment start dates.

A3  Complete Employee Health Requirements

TB Testing

Every incoming Resident/Fellow should submit a copy of a current TB skin test, Quantiferon Gold, or T-spot completed after May 20, 2020, to meet the entry TB requirement.  These results can be submitted as part of the MedHub onboarding package.

For those that need to visit one of the UW Employee Health offices, please do this at your earliest convenience.  This will help us avoid crowding situations as we approach the beginning of the academic year.

**You must have your Employee ID (found in Workday) before you can complete your testing.**

Fit Testing

For Residents/Fellows that have completed a Respirator Fit test in the past 12 months, please submit a copy of this documentation as part of your MedHub onboarding package or email a copy directly to the Employee Health office at emhealth@uw.edu. For those that still need Respirator Fit testing, please contact your Program Administrator for specific scheduling information.  For trainees that cannot make one of the scheduled times, please contact Employee Health directly to set up an appointment in their office.

A4  Review UW Benefits Modules

Enroll early!

Review all 8 modules of the UW Benefits Orientation to learn about the options for medical and dental insurance, life insurance, retirement plans and other benefits available to you. You will need to login with your NetID.

A6  Pick up your badges

Starting 6/22/2020 badges are available for pickup.

UWMC, HMC and Husky Cards will be printed in advance for those who submitted a photo as part of their MedHub Onboarding package. Incoming Residents and Fellows should pick up their badges from each of the badging offices prior to their first clinical day unless their Program communicates alternative arrangements.

Husky cards, for those printed in advance, can be picked up at UWMC-Montlake only.

C2  Attend EHR Training

EHR Training: Epic (outpatient) and ORCA (inpatient)

Training requirements for the UW Medicine electronic health records (used at UW Medical Center and Harborview Medical Center) vary by specialty.  This year all training will be held in live virtual classrooms.  Room assignments and times will be sent out at a later date.

Additional training may be required for residents and fellows rotating at Seattle Children’s Hospital and the VA.  Programs will work with these sites to arrange training.

Residents/Fellows should have received a registration email with your classroom Zoom links. Please contact your Program Administrator with any questions.
