About Me
I am the daughter of Turkish immigrants, sister to a real scientist, and mother of a doodle named Remy. My friends would describe me as silly, sarcastic, and loving. I am happiest when I am outside by the water, with a beverage in one hand and my camera in the other. At work, I am usually bumping music in the team room or using silliness as a way to get through a stressful day. Outside of the hospital I am either taking photos, cooking for friends, or spending time with my fiancé Travis and dog Remy.
Winter or Summer in Seattle:
Why not fall or spring??? I equally love the moodiness of a rainy fall/winter day and a warm spring day overlooking snow capped mountains.
Any Specific Interest? Residency or non-residency?
Medical education/mentorship, trainee wellness, humanism and creative expression in medicine. Photography, baking, hiking, road trips.
Why UW Pediatrics/Seattle Children’s?
I wanted to be pushed academically at a high acuity/census stand-alone children’s hospital. Moreover, I wanted train in an environment where I felt I could be my genuine self both as a person and professional. The ~vibes~ during my interview just clicked and translated in person when I met my co-residents and faculty. Seemed like a place and program where I would not only get great training in pediatrics but also grow individually as a person while being able to be myself and foster community. The nature surrounding Seattle was a big plus.
Why Seattle?
How green it is, the mountains, dog-friendly, very easy to do both city and nature exploring on a day/weekend off! The mountains, being close to water, the parks/green space, walkability, dog-friendliness, food.
What questions would you love to answer for potential applicants?
Being a dog parent in residency, developing as a learner and resident teacher, establishing yourself in a new city during residency.
What do you like do you like to talk about:
Palliative care, medical education, photography, international travel. How to take care of a dog during residency? How do I find my footing in a large program? How do I know if a tertiary academic hospital is the place I want to train?
