About you
I am a former engineer who now spends my free time designing toys for cats (see https://sites.google.com/view/toys-for-stella). Outside of that, I pretty love to do anything outdoorsy – whether it be hiking or going to farmer’s markets.
Winter or Summers in Seattle? and why?
I haven’t experienced a Winter in Seattle yet, but I am absolutely loving our Summer! The sun sets at like 9-10PM which is a crazy concept coming from the Midwest and makes afternoon errands and outdoor workouts much more doable.
Any specific interests? Residency or non-residency
I am very interested in pediatric engineering with a mindset towards being intentional when designing spaces and medical equipment for children.
Why UW/Seattle Children’s Peds?
On my interview day, I was confronted with people who were so inspired in improving so many different realms of pediatric medicine and how we deliver it at all levels. This combined with the general delight I had after the interviews and socials showed me that this program isn’t just one that checks all the ACGME boxes, but really pushes you to become a pediatrician that sees beyond the limitations our society places on what is possible—to not only have the technical acumen to understand cultural and age-related differences in symptomatology, but also the research aptitude to advance the care of children and the ability to connect and advocate on their behalf
What do you like about Seattle?
The city as a whole attracts a lot of artsy, creative, and outdoors-minded people. There’s always new art installations (most recently the new NW Trolls – https://www.nwtrolls.org/), or festivals (such as the Seattle Design Festival) taking place that so inspire creativity. Seattle also is close to three absolutely stunning national parks providing their own element of beauty to even just the drive to continuity clinic.
What questions would you love to answer for potential applicants?
I am happy to answer any question about moving cross-country, intern life, housing, work logistics, and to a certain extent, the touristy seattle things I have done to date!
