5:00 – 6:30a Running Start Night Team prepares for signout: Review vitals, print CORES, prepare early discharges, help assign expected rounding durations for new patients.
6:30 – 7:30a Resident-to-Resident Shift Handoff Staggered Signout
7:30 – 9:30a Pre-rounds on Units Interns/med students see patients, (prioritize new patients, nursing & family concerns.) Senior/Care Coordination Huddles: Teams 5/6 – 8:00 | Teams 1/2/3/4 – 8:15 | Team 7 – 9:05 Identify discharge and home care needs, safety risks. Senior prerounds, make sure discharges are complete.
8:30 – 9:00a Morning Teaching Conference Mon, Wed, Fri – Morning Report Tue – Mock Code/Ward Check-in Thu – Grand Rounds (8:00-9:00a) NOTE: Schedule varies. See weekly conference calendar.
9:30 – 11:30a Patient and Family Centered Rounds Entire rounding team present, (MDs, RN +/- Rx, CC, SW, etc.) Team enters room whenever patient/family allow. Intern may examine patient if not done on pre-rounds/signout. Orders entered and read back after each patient. Whiteboard updated and family concerns addressed.
11:30a – 12:30p Patient Care/Work Time Surge Capacity for Rounding if High Census
12:30 – 1:15p Lunch Teaching Conference Mon, Tue, Fri – Housestaff Teaching Conference Wed – Resident Case Presentation (1st Wed of Month: Patient Safety Conf, 12-1p) Thu – Intern Support/Housestaff Mtg/Other (see sched.) NOTE: Schedule varies. See weekly conference calendar.
1:15 – 6:00p Patient Care/Work Time Completing progress notes, accepting admissions, updating CORES, preparing for evening signout, etc.
Flexible Afternoon Teaching Afternoon teaching with attendings.  Usually occurs between 2:00p and 4:00p.
6:00 – 7:00p Resident-to-Resident Shift Handoff Staggered Signout
10:00p – 12:00a Night Rounds Visit each nursing cluster to review numbers, get updates, clean up orders, answer questions with individual nurses, and prepare patients for discharge.
~1:30a Night Teaching Case-based discussion of acute inpatient management issues facilitated by Senior Residents
