Asli Cansunar

Asli Cansunar (Ph.D., Duke University, 2018) is an incoming assistant professor of Political Science at UW. Previously, she was a post-doctoral research fellow at the Nuffield College, University of Oxford. Her research lies at the intersection of comparative political economy, comparative politics, and economic history, focusing on the political consequences of economic inequality. In particular, she works on wealthy individuals’ political preferences and behavior. She also investigates the distributive impact of these preferences. She combines formal modeling with laboratory experiments, survey experiments, geospatial analysis, and archival research. Most of her research is concentrated in advanced industrialized countries and the Middle East. Asli’s research has appeared in the Journal of Politics and the Journal of Political Institutions and Political Economy. She teaches courses in political economy, political methodology, political economy of Islam, and geospatial analysis.
