she/her

(re)joined: Jul 2024

Melissa is originally from Venezuela. She is a rising senior at Raisbeck Aviation High School in Tukwila. She is involved in eight clubs (National Honor Society, Women in Aviation, Environmental Club, Technology Student Association, Speech and Debate, LSU, BSU, and Key Club). She is passionate about helping others in her community, including teaching young girls how to code,  helping young Latinx students get excited about science and math. She also tutors over ten students at her school in Spanish and Physics. She is a member of various POC women’s empowerment organizations, including Spin Girls and Y-WE. She is eager to join the Vásquez lab for the second time in a row! She hopes to keep learning new lab approaches, dive deeper into bioengineering processes, enhance her STEM knowledge, as well as figuring out what she will be majoring in next year!

Outside of the lab you can find her reading books, creating art in many mediums, playing instruments, singing, going to concerts, visiting new cafes, dancing joropo, and attending museums.
