Isabel, a Washington local, is grateful for the chance to pursue her graduate studies at the University of Washington through the MCB program while remaining on the Pacific Coast. Her academic interests lie in developmental biology and regeneration.

Before joining the program, she earned a B.S. in Molecular and Cellular Biology from the University of Puget Sound in 2020. Subsequently, she joined Dr. Harmit Malik’s lab at Fred Hutch as a research technician. During her time there, she conducted evolutionary studies related to the actin cytoskeleton and genetic conflicts involving sex chromosomes and chromatin binding proteins in fruit flies.

Beyond her academic pursuits, Isabel enjoys reading and contemplating philosophical questions, exploring the city on her bicycle, hiking through the beautiful PNW and cherishing moments with her beloved tuxedo cat, Zion.
