Herpes Western Blot Test

History
The University of Washington Virology Research Clinic (VRC) was established in 1973 to conduct research in infectious diseases and is a world-renowned leader in herpes research. The VRC is also funded by National Institutes of Health as a Vaccine and Treatment Evaluation Unit (VTEU).
As a VTEU, we conduct clinical trials and clinical research studies for vaccines and other preventative drugs, diagnostics and devices targeting infectious diseases. We also prioritize investigational studies that would not be done in the private sector. Examples include pre-pandemic influenza vaccines for stockpiling, first-in-human studies of new antibiotics, and medical countermeasures that may be used in a public health emergency.
In March 2020, with the advent of COVID-19 in the Pacific Northwest, we expanded our work to include studies addressing the natural history and immune response to SARS-CoV-2 infection as well as development of novel therapies and vaccines to prevent COVID-19.
