Moderna HSV Vaccine (Phase 1)

The purpose of this research study is to test an investigational herpes vaccine. Investigational means the vaccine is not approved by the FDA. The study will test different vaccine doses to see which dose best reduces genital herpes symptoms and the amount of HSV-2 in your genital area. The study will also evaluate how your immune system is affected by the vaccine and how safe the vaccine is. 

The study will last for a little over one year (15 months) and involve at least 10 clinic visits.  It will involve blood draws, vaccinations, and the collection of genital swab samples.

To be eligible for this study you:

  • Are at least 18 years of age
  • Received a diagnosis (>1 year ago) of genital HSV-2 infection and experience outbreaks
  • Are willing to refrain from suppressive antiviral therapy for the duration of the study

Conditions which would prevent you from participating:

  • HIV-1 or HIV-2 infection
  • Hepatitis B or C infection
  • Currently pregnant or breastfeeding

Compensation:

Participants may receive up to $2,200 for participating in the study. Additional compensation is provided for completion of daily diaries.

Clinic Location: Our clinic is located on the 11th floor of the Ninth and Jefferson Building at Harborview Medical Center. We are open Monday through Friday from 8:00am to 5:00pm.
