The City of Tacoma has proclaimed November 12th through the 16th to be Joint Base Lewis-McChord Week, in recognition of the impact of the base on our region and to celebrate the people of JBLM and all that they bring to our community.
On Tuesday, November 6, 2018, the Center for Business Analytics (CBA) at the University of Washington Tacoma received the Milgard School of Business’s first proclamation from the City of Tacoma. CBA working with students, researchers, and community members solicited and managed an economic impact analysis outlining Joint Base Lewis McChord’s (JBLM) contribution to the community. The South Sound Military and Communities Partnership ()SSMCP) was established in 2010 to foster effective communication and understanding between Joint Base Lewis-McChord and surrounding communities in the South Sound Region and to help orchestrate unified approaches to resolving issues of mutual interest. More than 55 states, counties, cities, communities, businesses, education and military organizations are SSMCP members. The project captured Joint Base Lewis-McChord’s value to neighboring communities and Washington state. This student-led project was one of 9 CBA Applied Projects (CBA’s Students-as-Innovators Program) in the Master of Science in Business Analytics program which partners student teams with business worked with faculty research to identify economic multiplier and calculate the effect of marginal propensity to consume (mpc) on transportation, healthcare, education, and housing presenting their findings to community leaders in May of 2018.
