Your First Site…

UW Sites WordPress basics and other pointers from the CampusPress/eduBlogs site.

Log In

  • Visit sites.uw.edu, and click on ‘Site Login’ from the menu at the top of the page.
  • Enter your NetID and NetID password.
  • Once authentication is complete, you will see the UW Sites HomePage.
  • Hover on My Sites in the upper left corner and select your site.
  • You will then see the WordPress dashboard and can start adding content to your site!

Important – You must log into the service once to set up your account properly. After you have an account, other UW Site owners can then add you to their sites if needed.

UW NETID are required for all users.
If a user does not have a UWNETID, any current UW faculty or staff member can sponsor individuals for a Sponsored UW NetID or use a Shared UWNETID to log in.

Writing/Editing Posts, Pages, and Comments

You can make standard posts on your site or add pages, such as a contact page or a list of books. You’ll also want to consider how you want to handle comments.

Appearance and Themes

Your site’s appearance is controlled by a theme. You can change the theme and add a custom image to the header.

More than 200 themes are available through your dashboard on the UW Sites Service.  However, you can’t download themes from other sites or from the main WordPress site.

If you want your site to work well on tablets and phones, you should look for a theme that is “responsive.” This label is sometimes included in the description of the theme.

Profile and Avatar (User Photo)

You may want to add information to your profile, including a display name that will be used when you write posts or comments on sites, or upload a photo to use as your avatar.

Abandoned Blogs

A note about abandoned blogs: Each year, every blog owner whose blog has not had any page or post updates in the past year will be emailed a notice about the lack of activity and alerted that if there is no response to the inquiry within thirty days, the blog will be deactivated, then deleted.
