University of Washington Financial Reporting Conference

The Michael G. Foster School of Business will co-host the nineteenth Annual Financial Reporting Conference with the Milgard School of Business/UW-Tacoma on

Friday, May 9, 2025

at Bell Harbor International Conference Center in downtown Seattle.

The Financial Reporting Conference brings together accounting standard setters, SEC officials, corporate financial executives, professional accountants and academics to discuss current issues in financial accounting and corporate reporting. An open-format panel discussion allows participants to interact with the speakers and panelists. Representatives from the FASB and the SEC will discuss current and emerging issues in financial reporting regulations. Corporate executives and professional accountants will participate in panel discussions on selected topics.

In the morning, Christine Botosan, board member of the Financial Accounting Standards Board, will provide a FASB update. We will also be joined by Paul Munter, Former Chief Accountant of the Securities Exchange Commission to discuss current issues at the SEC. In the afternoon, we will moderate two panel discussions. The first panel, tentatively titled “The Changing Tax Landscape: Legislative Changes & Practice Evolution,” will be led by Crystal Finkelstein, a faculty member at the Foster School of Business. This panel will explore the evolving tax landscape, providing insights into the current tax policy outlook. Key topics will include the impact of expiring provisions from the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017, as well as proposed and recently implemented legislative changes. The second panel is tentatively titled “Perspectives on Generative AI in business.” It brings together users, providers, and auditors to illuminate how each perspective contributes uniquely to understanding the generative AI’s strategic and operational value in modern business.
