Led by Dr. Gary Stobbe, M.D the ANeW project seeks to understand and implement essential
services needed by adults with IDD who are in crisis situations. Funded by Senate Bill 5440 this
project has a two-fold approach comprised of a retrospective review and a prospective pilot
Retrospective Review
A detailed review of cases from the state to provide recommendations and preventative strategies to keep adults with disabilities from interacting with the criminal justice system. The goal is to identify protective and risk factors within systems to develop supports that could prevent future crisis scenarios.
Pilot Program
Utilizing a person-centered approach our interdisciplinary team will provide crisis consultation services to adults with IDD who have been found incompetent to stand trial with the goal of restoring them to their community of choice. 20 adults will receive treatment for 6 months. The adult, their stakeholders, and our interdisciplinary team work together to create and implement a treatment plan to stabilize and support the adult so they can be restored to their community. Then, a receiving team of clinicians is established and the participant is transitioned for long-term services and restoration their community of choice.
