Projects

Recent and/or active ASPIRe Lab Projects include:

Post-Acute Care (PAC) Policy Impact Study

Together with investigators at the University of Pittsburgh and the University of California Los Angeles, this NIA-funded R01 uses mixed methods to examine the impact of Medicare post-acute care (PAC) payment reform on access to services and patient outcomes.

Home Health and Skilled Nursing Facility staff, leadership, and patients/families are encouraged to visit the PAC Policy Impact Study website to learn more about participating in the study.

Washington State Long-Term Care Workforce

With collaborators at the UW Center for Health Workforce Studies, the ASPIRe Lab will conduct mixed methods research on direct care staffing levels and perspectives of direct care staff on barriers and supports to providing high-quality care in Long-Term Care in Washington State. Findings will be included in annual legislative reports from the Washington State Workforce Training and Education Coordinating Board (Workforce Board).

Staffing of Allied Health Professionals in Skilled Nursing Facilities

As part of the UW Center for Health Workforce Studies’ $4.5 million grant from the Health Resources and Services Administration, the ASPIRe lab examined trends and variation in staffing of allied health professions in skilled nursing facilities, producing two reports.

Supply and Demand for Therapy Services in Skilled Nursing Facilities

With collaborators at the UW Center for Health Workforce Studies, we published three studies examining physical and occupational therapy staffing, therapy practices, and quality related to therapy staffing in Skilled Nursing Facilities.

PAC Quality for Rural Medicare Beneficiaries

With collaborators at the WWAMI Rural Health Research Center, Tracy Mroz examined the quality of Skilled Nursing Facilities and Home Health Agencies servicing rural Medicare beneficiaries. Key findings were published in two policy briefs.
