CEE Majors:
APWA is offering a chance to go on a fieldtrip to CH2M this Wednesday, January 13 at 4pm, but you have to sign up now. CH2M is an important and active employer for those interested in water (in addition to other areas of CEE). Read below.
Civil Engineering Students,
Many of us are interested in work that improve the community. The American Public Works Association (APWA) is a professional engineering organization for people who work on projects that do just that. All civil disciplines, from hydrology to structures, are represented in public works.
You are invited to join the APWA UW Student Chapter, a new club that connects students with jobs in public works! We do this by hosting networking nights with local engineers, going on field trips to public works projects, and visiting companies to meet engineers where they work. We are currently 36 members, looking to connect even more students to public works professionals.
Last quarter, APWA UW Chapter:
-Toured the Seattle seawall replacement project
-Visited a windfarm in Eastern Washington
-Hosted a networking dinner and presentation on earthquake resilience
Coming Up:
-Visit to CH2M, a company looking for entry level engineers and summer interns
-Behind the scenes tour of the SR 520 bridge replacement
-Tour of the SR 99 replacement tunnel (Bertha!)
-Tours of the SouthLink and NorthLink light rail projects
-Networking nights
Your $15 membership gets you free access to field trips, office visits, and networking events for the rest of the year. Contact Kern McGee at apwa@uw.edu for more information.
