GAANN PhD Fellowships in Advanced Infrastructure Systems-Carnegie Mellon University

CMU CEE PhD GAANN Fellowships Available for Advanced Infrastructure Systems for Transportation and Water

We are recruiting applicants for a new interdisciplinary PhD Fellowship program in Advanced Infrastructure Systems (AIS) sponsored by the U.S. Department of Education through the Graduate Assistance in Areas of National Need (GAANN) program. Our AIS graduate program brings advancements in technology in computing, sensing, data analytics, and automation technology into the design, construction, operation, and management of infrastructure.

Our GAANN PhD Fellowship program will train a cohort of U.S. PhD students to be leaders in developing, deploying and integrating advanced technologies with the goal of modernizing U.S. transportation and water infrastructure in innovative ways. We define transportation and water infrastructure broadly, which includes but is not limited to the following infrastructure systems: roadways, bridges, tunnels, buildings, pipelines, drinking water systems, wastewater and stormwater systems, as well as traffic and water quality management.

We seek applicants with a range of engineering and science backgrounds, at either the BS or MS level, to be part of the next generation of technology leaders in civil and environmental engineering.

Fellows will receive a full research assistantship including tuition and an annual stipend of up to $34,000. In addition, our GAANN fellowship program will provide professional development opportunities including engagement with companies and researchers in smart-cities technology from across the U.S., and supervised teaching training and experience.

More information about our GAANN PhD Fellowship program, including application guidance, is available online.

The application deadline for Fall 2019 admission is January 5, 2019.

Please forward this announcement to any potentially interested, eligible students. As per Department of Education requirements, only U.S. citizensĀ or permanent U.S. residentsĀ are eligible for GAANN fellowships.
