Reminder: Announcing the 2018-2019 the Airport Cooperative Research Program (ACRP) University Design Competition for Addressing Airport Needs
I am writing to share the new Guidelines for 2018-2019 Airport Cooperative Research Program (ACRP) University Design Competition for Addressing Airport Needs. We hope that faculty will encourage university students to participate in the competition. This is often done as part of a capstone design course, for independent credit or as a student professional society project. Students win cash prizes and the university receives special recognition. First place will receive $3000, second place will receive $2000, and third place will receive $1000. First place winners present their designs at a special ceremony at the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine in Washington, DC and at a relevant national conference.
Please share the attached guidelines with any one that may be interested in participating in the program.
In addition to last year’s topics, the following new topics have been added; one in each of the four challenge areas:
- New tools and approaches to storm water management methods, water use at airports and dealing with negative impacts of standing water.
- Methods for improving runway safety during airport construction and reconstruction.
- Enhanced management approaches to landside functions to include parking and ground transportation.
- Strategies for safe and effective integration of automated and connected vehicles into the complex airport operations environment.
Additional information regarding the ACRP University Design Competition can be found at the Competition web site located at http://vsgc.odu.edu/ACRPDesignCompetition/index.html. The updated guidelines for submission are attached and can be found at http://vsgc.odu.edu/ACRPDesignCompetition/files/2018-2019-ACRPGuidelines-Interactive.pdf.
Questions can be addressed to ACRP@odu.edu or give us a call. Please share this email with any faculty or students who might have interest in the Competition.
