THE INTERVENTION

Our team at the University of Washington and Kenyatta National Hospital developed an interactive SMS text messaging intervention, Mobile WACh NEO (also known as NEO), that remotely connects mothers with nurses, clinical personnel, and other healthcare workers in the high-risk period immediately following birth.

The goal of the CHV-NEO project is to adapt NEO technology for use by community health volunteers (CHVs) and integrate NEO into CHVs’ existing digital infrastructure and workflow, in partnership with Medic. CHV-NEO sends automated messages that guide mothers to evaluate neonatal danger signs and facilitate real-time dialogue with CHVs to answer questions and triage medical concerns. The goal is to enable remote communication outside of clinic and home visits that supports mothers to care for their babies and improves neonatal health. Learn more about our study here.
