Dare 2 Care: Compassion in Science Second Annual Commemoration

August 28th, 2024
11:00am-1:00pm
Foege Genome Sciences Vista Café & Terrace

We are proud to introduce D2C’s Second Annual Commemoration’s Keynote Speaker, Scott Imbrie.

Scott was pronounced quadriplegic after breaking his neck in a car accident at age 22. He now spends 3 days a week at the University of Chicago participating in the Brain Computer Interface (BCI) study. With brain implants, Scott can control a robotic arm and hand with sensory feedback using only the thoughts in his brain.

Scott will share his perception of sensations, motor functions and movement after his life-changing surgery and his thoughts and unique experiences as a participant of BCI studies. His story will inspire you, exemplifying why animal research and their researchers are important.

We will be joined by special guest Dr. Cindy Buckmaster.

You can register for the Zoom option, if you can’t participate in-person.

You can watch a video interview when Scott previously visited UW.
