COMPASSION IN SCIENCE

THE BOX PROJECT

The Box Project evolved from the need for an outlet for Laboratory Animal Professionals (LAPs) to express themselves, anonymously or not, when they may not feel comfortable reaching out to another person. Cards and pens are provided for LAPs to either write letters, poetry, farewell notes or make drawings to be deposited in the boxes.

Ken Gordon, the Executive Director of the Northwest Association for Biomedical Research (NWABR; Seattle, WA) generously offered his time to create 20 gorgeous wooden boxes for this project. Jackson Laboratory (Bar Harbor, ME) donated funds to cover the costs of laser engraving. These boxes were then laser engraved by Zot Laser Cutting and Engraving (Greenwood, WA) with the D2C Compassion Fatigue Program Logo as well as NWABR and Jackson Laboratory logos. They have been polyurethane sealed and are currently being placed in various vivariums across the University of Washington for use.
