YUKI AOKI

Yuki is a Research Scientist/Veterinary Nurse with Veterinary Services at the University of Washington, Department of Comparative Medicine. After seven years of hands-on veterinary technical work (focused in orthopedic surgery and emergency medicine) in private practice in California, Yuki started her research career in 2012, with a laboratory at the UW Department of Surgery, which studied the anti-diabetic effects of bariatric surgery in Ossabaw mini swine. She transitioned to working with Veterinary Services in 2014, where she now provides veterinary care to the majority of laboratory animals at the UW and works in parallel with the Office of Animal Welfare to ensure continuous humane practices of animal use throughout the institution.

Yuki has been an active member of the UW Dare 2 Care Compassion Fatigue Committee since its establishment in 2016. When Yuki is not working, she actively participates in the local jazz scene and enjoys spending time with her two rescue Australian Cattle Dogs, Chipper and Chance.
