Welcome to the Idrobo Lab!

Our laboratory is at the forefront of advancing and applying analytical Scanning Transmission Electron Microscopy (STEM) techniques. Our expertise lies in unveiling fundamental insights into materials and devices. Our laboratory, an integral part of the Department of Materials Science & Engineering at the University of Washington, is stationed within the Institute for Nano-Engineered Systems (NanoES).

Currently recruiting Post-Doctors and PhD & Master students

Research Areas:

  • Advancing in-situ cryogenic, heating, and biasing/gating analytical electron microscopy techniques
  • Probing electronic structures and properties in two-dimensional materials
  • Visualizing topological textures within quantum materials
  • Exploring thermal and phonon transport in energy-focused nanomaterials at interfaces
  • Understanding electron-light interactions at the nanoscale for nanophotonics
  • Investigating molecular vibrations of amino acids in confined environments
