The Prater Lab
The Prater Lab, led by Dr. Katherine Prater, is a neuroscience research laboratory focused on understanding the biology of resilience to brain diseases located at the University of Washington, Seattle. Housed in the Department of Neurology, we use multiple ‘omics technologies to investigate the glial mechanisms and cell-cell interactions underlying resilience to neurodegeneration. Our goal is to identify biological targets and develop them into useable therapeutics that will meaningfully change the lives of the millions of individuals living with Alzheimer’s disease and their care partners.

About our logo:
One definition of resilience is the ability to bend without breaking. The lines moving from curved to straight are a symbol of resilience. We aim to understand biology that will enhance resilience in the brain for those who need it.
We study, learn, live, and work on the lands of the Coast Salish peoples, the land which touches the shared waters of all tribes and bands within the Suquamish, Tulalip and Muckleshoot nations. We acknowledge their continued stewardship of these lands and thank the elders past and present.
