Travel and Funding Resources

The Graduate Funding Information Service (GFIS) through the UW Libraries, exists to support admitted and current graduate students at the University of Washington to locate funding opportunities for assistantships and fellowships, travel and conferences, research and more. You can make a free consultation with GFIS to gain more information and learn about opportunities but please note the GFIS office will be closed until September 25th and emails will not be answered until fall quarter.

Conference Travel Funding

• UCLA Graduate and Postdoctoral Extramural Support (GRAPES) Database is publicly available and includes travel funding and conference travel support. 
• Graduate & Professional Student Senate Travel Grants (GPSS) are awarded throughout the year, including summer quarter. 
• Graduate Student Conference Presentation Awards are awarded for confirmed UW student presenters and speakers.

Research and Study

• The U.S. Student Fulbright Program is the largest exchange program offering opportunities for students to undertake international graduate study, advanced research, and teaching. 
• Research Centers and Institutes at UW will show you a comprehensive list of disciplinary and interdisciplinary research opportunities and centers, some offering assistantships, fellowships, scholarships and awards. 

Grants, Scholarships and Fellowships

Scholarships, fellowships and grants are interchangeable terms, and include money for school, research, travel, or other educational activities that do not have to be paid back. Grant application cycles typically begin 6-12 months prior to the funding so start your search the year prior if possible. If you are an international student, make sure to filter by residency or citizenship when looking in databases.
