  • If you’ve already identified important journals in your field, a great way to stay connected is by signing yourself up for alerts or notifications. Choose one, go to the publisher’s website, register for an account if necessary, and sign up for automatic journal updates.
  • Do you want to track articles, books, or news on a particular topic? Try saving a search query in UW Libraries Search, a disciplinary database, Google, or Google Scholar by following these examples.
  • As you monitor the literature, consider saving key sources in a citation manager.

Reflection

  • How did you select the publication or search terms you did when establishing an alert?
  • What are other publications or search queries you could establish an alert for?
  • How will you utilize your familiarity with newly published research in your field to contribute to the scholarly conversation?
