Internet-Based Research Resources

Knowing how and when to combine library-based resources with online research resources is an essential graduate student skill. Here’s a quick list of some of the most important Internet-based resources.

  • Google Advanced Search: Get the most out of your searches, using search options, features, & tricks.
  • Google Scholar: Connect Google Scholar to UW Libraries to discover free & accessible scholarly articles and data.
  • Data.gov: U.S. Government’s open data. Find data, tools, and resources to conduct research, develop web and mobile applications, design data visualizations, and more.
  • USA.gov: U.S. Government all-in-one portal for information across federal, state, and local levels.
  • Figshare: a repository where users can make all of their research outputs available in a citable, shareable and discoverable manner.
  • Seattle Public Library: Explore the unique resources offered online by Seattle Public Library — including ebooks, tech training, streaming video, museum passes, and more. Search your local library website if outside the Seattle area.
