Mental Health Resources

At UW, we understand that mental health is an important factor to academic success! There are many tools, information, and resources to help with a variety of mental health concerns at UW. Consider the following resources listed here:

Counseling Services

Students have various options for speaking with a counselor. The options listed below are FREE for UW students. Consider the best option for you based on your location:

  • Counseling Center (In-Person and Virtual): 
    • As a UW student, you are given counseling services at the UW Counseling Center for FREE (except for career assessment tests, which requires a fee).The center offers short-term counseling, but students can also receive referrals to other resources for longer-term counseling. Consider scheduling an appointment if you experience adjustment issues, depression, anxiety, relationship concerns, and/or any other other challenges. Sessions are offered both virtual and in-person.

      • Phone: Call 206.543.1240 if you are unable to access the student portal.
  • Husky HelpLine (Virtual):
    • If you are physically out of state and/or are experiencing a crisis, you can use the Husky HelpLine to receive FREE, real-time, confidential mental health and crisis intervention support from a licensed mental health therapist. Husky HelpLine is supported through Telus and is available 24/7 in multiple languages through either telephone or online chat.
    • Online chat: Chat with a Telus counselor on Telus website or on the Telus app (Apple App Store | Google Play)
    • Download the Telus app (Apple App Store | Google Play) to have the full range of services at your fingertips any time.

Health and Wellness

LiveWell is led by a small team of professionals that focuses on the collective power of students, local communities, and university resources to enrich the academic journey of all students. By offering evidence-based information and education, LiveWell promotes personal and social growth, empowering students to enhance their life skills. A variety of resources, support, advocacy, education, and consultation are offered by LiveWell. Their services include: 

  • Alcohol and Other Drug Resources
  • LiveWell Confidential Advocates
  • Student Care
  • Suicide Intervention Program
  • Peer Wellness Coaching
  • Peer Health Education

Many of these services are available in-person and online. LiveWell programs also offer a referral option for if you witnessed or have reasonable concern for a friend or loved one in the UW community. Visit their program website for more information.

Other Resources

A variety of other resources are available to assist in your student journey at UW! The following resources should be applicable to all UW students, for FREE, regardless of location or program: 

  • Center for International Relations & Cultural Leadership Exchange (CIRCLE)
    • CIRCLE streamlines a variety of resources for international students such as advocacy, financial support, and coaching.
  • Disability Service Office
    • Students can obtain long term or short term accommodations for their physical or mental disability, injury, or even pregnancy. 
  • SafeCampus
    • SafeCampus provides consultations and resources to keep the UW community safe from violence and other types of harm. You can connect with one of their Violence Prevention and Response Specialists if you are concerned for your or another person’s safety. All calls are private and you can share as much or as little information as you want. 
    • Phone: Call 206.685.7233 during operating hours to connect with a SafeCampus employee. All calls are confidential.
    • Email: Contact at safecampus@uw.edu. Emails are monitored on weekdays during 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. 
  • Office of the Ombud
    • The Office of the Ombud serves as a FREE, neutral-party mediator for the University of Washington community. They offer a confidential, informal, impartial and independent space for people to bring up issues they may be having and provide potential solutions moving forward.
